Head Prefect talks about the positive change the Matildas have created

CCGS Head Prefect 2022-2023, Annabelle King, has been playing semi-professional football for 7 years with the Central Coast Mariners, represented Australia overseas in Futsal touring the UK and NSW at nationals, and represented U17 NSW football at the age of 14 in Fiji as the starting goalkeeper.

“I’ve always been a vocal advocator for women’s equality in sport,” Annabelle said. She recently spoke to our whole school about how passionately she feels about the recent performance of the Matildas at the FIFA Women’s World Cup which greatly impacted Annabelle, “I have a lot to thank the Matildas for,” she said.

“Last year I fell out of love with soccer, I was struggling with the mental, physical, and emotional strain of playing a professional sport without being treated as a professional athlete. This affected my performance, my mindset, and my life,” Annabelle said.

“Watching the Matildas made me fall back in love with the sport, as they proved our worth on the world stage,” Annabelle said, and has seen firsthand the catalyst for female change in the sport and beyond.
